The Valley That Let The Blockchain In - A Documentary About The Crypto Valley (2026) is an independent documentary film about the origins of the crypto sector as we know it. Unbeknownst to many, the city of Zug in the smallest canton of Switzerland was instrumental in the global success story of crypto assets. As the first municipality in the world, it created legal certainty for crypto entrepreneurs to operate around 2011 while other states shunned the emerging asset class. Crypto Valley attracted projects like Ethereum, which later kickstarted the ICO boom that minted many billionaires around the world and also sparked ongoing controversy about the get-rich-quick-nature of crypto.
Film director Manuel Stagars followed the journey of the Crypto Valley and interviewed a core group of people on the leading edge in Zug at the time around 2011-2020 who made the explosion of crypto and blockchain possible from this place in the Swiss mountains that most people never heard of.
